As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice.

Iran TARGETS weapons at US warships that scramble deadly helicopters in FIERCE stand-off

ALARM are ringing in Washington after American warships were "harassed" by "aggressive" Iranian forces - who trained their weapons against the vessels.

The incident was condemned by US security forces who said Iran had been acting increasingly provocatively and unpredictably in recent months.
Despite being in international waters in the Strait of Hormuz, the American ships were aggressively approached by members of the Iranian Navy on Tuesday.
Iranian forces trained their weapons on the US flotilla, which was made up of five ships and included the huge aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush.

Washington said the helicopters were then also threatened.
Rear Admiral Kenneth Whitesell, commander of the Carrier Strike Group 2, said Iran had been unnecessarily aggressive during the incident.

Iran said the US ships had breached its territory – a claim America denies.
Rear Admiral Whitesell said: "What I don't like about that is they were in the middle of international transit waters. We had a right to be there as we were exercising freedom of navigation on our way into the Arabian Gulf.
"They also had weapons uncovered as some of the cameras were able to tell. They had some of the weapons manned. We also have aerial data that they were arming all of these weapons."

Iranian Navy test fire torpedo in grand finale of naval drills

Captain Will Pennington, commanding officer on the aircraft carrier, said Iran had shown "certainly unprofessional behaviour".
He added they had been acting in a "more aggressive and less predictable" manner in recent months, as tensions continue to escalate between the Middle Eastern country and the West.
Earlier this month, Iranian attack ships came threateningly close to British Royal Navy vessels, forcing them to change route to avoid a disastrous collision.

US officials revealed the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps had ignored calls to change their course, eventually coming within 600 yards of the British ships.
And in February, America put Iran "on notice" following a controversial missile test.

Security advisor Michael Flynn said: "As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice.
"The Obama administration failed to respond adequately to Tehran's malign actions — including weapons transfers, support for terrorism and other violations of international norms.

If Iran had a navy and they sent 5 warships sailing up the Hudson river I wonder if the Yanks would consider that ok and not an aggressive act.

What country has us colonised . China has taken Tibet without a whisper and where would Europe and the rest of the world be now had the Nazi Germany and Japan  not subdued. . Which other country would have allowed the perpetrators of the Second World War. To flourish after their atrocities as they have done.. Name any country that would not have subjugated the vanquished as they have done. In Iran or China can you call your leader or government fools without being imprisoned or or eradicated......

The only aggressors are the Americans and the Israelis. The world would be a much safer place if these two countries were wiped off the map.

These incidents clearly highlight the fact that Iran is attempting to showcase its military power and regional preeminence to the United States. Some of Iran’s Persian-language newspapers boasted about Tehran’s military capacity to counter theU.S. navy and dominate the Strait of Hormuz, an area that roughly a third of all oil traded by sea must pass through. Iran has frequently exploited the strategic location of the Strait of Hormuz by threatening to shut it down or conducting military exercises meant to intimidate

How is sending carrier battle groups to the Persian Gulf, not acting provocatively?

Yet again here, we have an extension of the Saudi Navy, (Al Qaeda Marine) creating regional aggro.

Perhaps you didn't know, but Iran doesn't own the Persian Gulf.  Just as China doesn't own the South China Sea.

Iran has been trying to get the US to do something for the last 2 years.  They would love to take over Iraq and start WW III.  Daesh is Sunni, why aren't they helping to fight them?  The whole ME will end up in one big Sunni vs Shia war and the west should just let them kill each other and stay out of it
11 hours ago
New User v2.0
Iran is clearly fighting Daesh (supported by Iran's many enemies) within the region. (notably in  the Iraq and Syria theatres)

The real question is why has the Pentagon been so unsuccessful (militarily) within the region... Is the failure, by way of design?

As much as i dislike Isl-am, can't you see what is going on right in front of your eyes????

The USA are provoking all the following countries without exception.

Iran
Syria
N Korea
China

What is the connection??????

They are ALL Russia's allies. Are you all too du-mb to know that if the USA atta-cked Iran, that would be certain WW3????

USA protect the Sunnis, they are the worst mus-lims on the planet by a mile.... Iran is Shia, enemies of the Sunnis..... Don't you get it?

Iran has been interfering in countries all over the Middle East for decades. It supports terrorism through Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis iun Yemen, has been fighting in Syria to support the dictator and mass murderer Assad. I know Iran very well – my PhD is in Persian Studies and I have studied it for about 50 years. The Shi'a since the 19th century have become more and more political and aggressive, culminating in the 1979 revolution. Since then, life has been hell for most Iranians – women, gays, all religious minorities, especially the much-persecuted Baha'is. Both radical Sunnis (Salafis/Wahhabis) and radical Shi'a are dangers to m,ankind. Iran calls for the destruction of two democracies (whatever their faults). Israel is the onlyn country in the Middle East and far beyond that practises human rights, has law and order within a democratic system, gives rights to women, gays, and all its religious minorities, yet the Iran theocratic regime that kills and imprisons its own democrats calls for Israel to be wiped off the face of the map.  I love Iran. I love the Iranian people. I have devoted much of my life to their history, beliefs, poetry, music, and art. Yet I hate this regime that has destroyed so much of what is best about the country and robbed its people of their rights and freedoms.

Don't change course, ignore the tozzers.
Russians played silly guts with the RN in 70, I think. They had a destroyer steam across the bows of the Ark Royal while she was launching aircraft [done at high speed into the wind usually].

The glancing blow from a 53,000 ton ship was luckily in the destroyer's port quarter.  any further forward and instead of pushing it around, it would have pushed it under.

Now these toe-rags need to know that a 95,000 ton carrier has nearly double the kinetic energy, so any of their bathtubs that get in the way are going to be chum.....

the problem is not the first shot being fired, but the 2nd or 3rd .... once shooting starts where will it end? these may be international waters, they are used by many oil exporting nations, yes, they are very close to Iran, I'm sure we'd be worried if a Chinese carrier group was between England & France .... may have right to be there but still close to the land .... Iran, UAE and others, and the Americans are there to support UAE and others - both sides need to consider what next ... don't want a war by accident
13 hours ago
Me_yetagain
No Ian we wouldn't BECAUSE IT IS INTERNATIONAL WATERS.
The fact that our press goes into hysterics when a Russian ship quite legally passes us by is irrelevant.  None of the services are bothered, I mean it isn't the most likely scenario to start a war....

International waters are just that regardless of their proximity to those dipsticks.
What if
International waters my friend, irrespective of how close it is to Iran.
Russia recently sent an aircraft Carrier through the English Channel, fully entitled to be there no problem.

Get the video cameras out , record these events, issue recorded warnings not to approach else they will be fire upon. If they persist, open fire.
I am sure the US does not want another USN Cole incident and the RN should be given similar instructions.

You sound around the bend. The US Navy would sink the entire Iranian Navy in 5 minutes flat. Actual fact.

And will do so should the Iranians be foolish enough to fire upon a US vessel.

BTW -- the PERISAN GULF is governed by the Law of the Sea and is international waters. Like the ENGLISH CHANNEL, sport.

So the Dover Straits, whilst entirely in French/UK territorial waters, is OPEN to passage to all shipping as a right of transit under the UNC Law of the Sea which allows for for unrestricted shipping.

Just like the Straits of Hormuz
